Facebook Is Now Meta: Will This Affect Your Small Business Marketing Plan?

It has been a little over a year since Facebook changed its name to Meta in late October 2021. With this change, the company announced its intention to pursue broader technological opportunities. Largely focused on the future of a metaverse, the name change created a stir in the news.

The buzz centered on several topics: Was there reason to think the metaverse was imminent? Was Facebook simply trying to distract everyone from their multilayered user privacy issues? And, for small businesses, would things be different in the future?

This is Not the First Shift in Focus for Facebook

A name change feels like a big deal, but the metaverse is far from imminent, and as far as the impact to small businesses, there have been bigger deals. For instance, in 2018, when Facebook announced they would prioritize content that came from family, friends and groups over that of brands.

The goal was meaningful content, and for brands that focus on meaningful content, the impact was not a big problem. Companies that already pushed to create posts that would foster conversations would fare just fine.

It’s an Argument for Diversification

The best marketing is diversified, and this is particularly true when it comes to social media marketing. You don’t want to spend all of your time on a single platform because trends shift quickly in social media.

You also don’t want to try to be active on every social media platform. Choose two to three that your target audience tends to use most and focus your efforts there.

Alongside this focused approach, incorporating high-quality business cards into your marketing strategy can further enhance your brand’s presence.

For a standout impression, consider using Metal Kards. These distinctive cards not only convey professionalism but also reinforce your brand’s identity in a memorable way. By combining targeted social media efforts with the impactful presence of metal cards, you can create a well-rounded marketing approach that effectively engages your audience and strengthens your business connections.

Don’t Write Off Facebook

Their stock plummeted in February and they experienced a drop in daily active users in the last quarter of 2021, the first in the history of the company. But a few years ago around 2014-2015, there was a lot of chatter about whether Twitter would survive. Yet it remains relevant headed into 2023.
